16 June 2010 - French Revolution Day at Hartley Primary School
Our
French Revolution Day was a great success. Mme Randell worked
tirelessly to decorate the school which looked stunning with
flags, bunting, pictures and French signs. The children had
'passports' stamped at the busy 'passport office' when they
arrived in the playground where some French speaking parents
together with Mme Randell created a wonderful babble of French
voices to greet the children. As the day progressed the children
were delighted to munch on biscuits and brioche supplied by
Mme Randell and took part in a range of French activities such
as making French flags, looking a a wide selection of French
books or playing boules. Each class had a talk on the French
Revlution given by Mme Randell and my year 3 class in particular
got very hooked on the idea of guillotines and heads rolling
- a bit like a bloodthirsty mob! French music played in assembly
and at lunchtime and even breakfast club entered into the spirit
of things providing croissants! We would thoroughly recommend
this day to others as it was something different and great for
promoting intercultural understanding and Mme Randell had the
day organised for us superbly!

July 2010 - For French tea at Holy Trinity Gravesend
All
the people I have spoken to enjoyed it. My own personal recommendation
would be for proper mugs for tea rather than plastic ones because
it would give people a bigger cup and would taste better. Also
to fill up a small plastic mug with the chocolate drink rather
than half full. Apart from that I thought it was great. I am
sure we will be in touch in the New Year to organise a repeat.
Take care

July 2010
- French Day at Kings Farm Primary School
We
have had three French days now at our school and they are always
thoroughly enjoyable for children and staff. The children love
trying French food, and all enjoy learning about and playing
the game of boules. They are able to look at a range of real
French books and films which give them a feel for authentic
resources. There are always a wide variety of costumes, and
some children (and staff!) get more inventive and competitive
year on year, trying to win the best costume prize. The talks
are informative and entertaining, with children learning each
year about a different aspect of French life and culture, and
some new vocabulary. One of the most valuable things is being
able to apply the French that they have been learning in real
contexts. The school is always beautifully decorated the evening
before and French music is played in the dinner hall which really
helps set the atmosphere. Having these days has definitely raised
the profile and enjoyment of French within the school. Thank
you Murielle for all the hard work you put into the days!

March 2011 - French Day at Our Lady of Hartley
Many
thanks to Murielle for a fantastic and fun French day at Our
Lady’s. The children had a fabulous time from beginning
to end and enjoyed every action-packed minute of it. The Boules
Tournament caused great excitement and the children learned
so much about French culture and customs. The school looked
very festive with all the bunting and themed decorations which
ensured everyone into the spirit of the day. Passport control
on arrival was a hoot, but the highlights for the children were
definitely the French Tuck Shop and the food tasting! Murielle
was run off her feet, but her superb organisation ensured everything
ran smoothly. The day was a resounding success and will definitely
become a regular feature in our yearly calendar.

5 April 2011 - French Day at St Joseph Catholic School
The
French Day that Madame Randell organized was ‘ TRES SUPERB’.
The children were able to experience all facets of French life
from the moment they passed through Passport Control dressed
in the colours of the Tricolore. Parents as well as children
began the day with a French style breakfast in the packed school
hall and then during the day learnt about the traditions, history
and geography of France and buying French snacks from the Tuckshop.
The day culminated in a game of boule on the school field. Both
parents and children had a wonderful day and all said that they
looked forward to the next French Day. Everyone said that the
day was great. Thank you for your hard work.

I have spoken to all the teachers at St. Joseph's and they all
agreed that the French Day was a great success. The children
have thoroughly enjoyed the activties of the day and were very
eager to fully participate. The breakfast was a great start
to the day as well as the passports and the Tuck Shop!! It was
lovely to enter the school so beautifully decorated. I have
seen some great work which shows how much the children learnt
about France and its customs. Thank you for your hard work,
we all have really enjoyed it.
